Instead of heading to our usual European races before Christmas, we took the decision to go to Mammoth USA, to do some speed events (Downhill and Super G). This was so I could build up my confidence in speed. It was such a good call from my coaches Hammy Morison and Jo Ryding. It was a long way to go but we trained with the USA National Team, which was great fun and good to see some of our American friends again after our break from the race circuit.
After a few days of training, there were 8 races in 6 days. Although there was not much competition in the visually impaired category, we decided to gauge ourselves by the fastest female on the hill. In 4 out of 8 races, we were the fastest female. This gives us an idea of where we sit in the rankings for the World cups that start in January.
There is still progress to be made but we were so thrilled that we are still in the mix.
All in all, it was a very positive race camp and definitely a good decision to travel all the way to America.
We were home in time for Christmas Day and time to recover before our next training camp at the beginning of January.
